Grigore Romano made two works: the 1907 woodcut “Portretul lui Dumitrie A. Sturza” and the 1912 oil “Pădure în flăcări.” Both sit in a tradition of late-19th-century Moldovan portrait and landscape prints, portraits pressed on thick paper, landscapes glowing with autumn fire. The print shows Sturza in three-quarter view, coat buttons catching the light; the painting crackles with reds and oranges behind a stand of birches.
