Frederick William Beechey

Frederick William Beechey was a British naval officer and hydrographer active during the nineteenth century. Born in 1796 and passing in 1856, he worked as a writer, painter, geographer, and botanical collector while serving in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. His artistic practice existed alongside his duties as an explorer and botanist. Beechey was the son of the artist William Beechey and the sibling of the artist Richard Brydges Beechey, placing him within a prominent family of painters. His contributions spanned both scientific documentation and visual representation, reflecting a career that merged maritime service with artistic and naturalist pursuits.
