Hungerford Printing Works

Hungerford Printing Works is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

They printed posters for everything, circuses, soup kitchens, midnight revivals, until the ink ran dry on their last rotary press. One morning in 1933 they slapped up a plain poster in the window: black letters on a white ground that simply read “Hungerford Printing Works.” Nothing else.

The message was the medium. You can still see the real thing taped inside a window at 149 Centre Street in New York, where the shop used to hum.
