Dietrich Grootjans

Dietrich Grootjans carried a tiny notebook everywhere and sketched strangers’ hands in the tram. Once he turned a whole page into a single spread thumbprint and called it a portrait. His paintings hide tiny jokes: a coffee cup that’s also a face, a shadow that waves back.

Look up his 2001 “Μάνος Φαλτάϊτς” – the Greek title is a red herring; the colors are pure Dutch light.
