Vasile Munteanu kept a pocket notebook in his fishing village on the Siret River, sketching faces he met on the ferry. He drew saints the way locals talked about them, no halos, just tired feet and calloused hands. His ink drawing Sfinții 40 de mucenici shows forty martyrs lined up like neighbors waiting for bread, each face slightly different. Hunt it down in a Romanian folk-art archive; the faces feel like people you’ve actually met.
