Jean Arp

Jean Arp was an Alsatian sculptor, painter, poet, and abstract artist who lived from 1886 to 1966. Born within the German Empire, he worked across multiple disciplines as a photographer, writer, poet, docent, artist, and illustrator. His creative life was deeply intertwined with that of his wife, the artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Together they navigated the evolving landscape of modern art. Arp also influenced the artist Maria Martins through his practice. His contributions spanned visual and literary forms, establishing a lasting presence in the history of abstraction and poetry without reliance on specific stylistic labels or unrecorded events.
