Colin Smith kept a studio lit by the same flickering bulb for twenty years, convinced the harsh light kept his colors honest. He turned everyday stuff, puddles, power lines, parking lots, into flat, graphic prints that feel like a secret code between him and the city. Slide into Untitled (2012) and you’ll spot the joke: the drips and blobs are printed so cleanly they look like little rebellions against perfection.
