Bernard Adams

Bernard Adams is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Bernard Adams painted quiet scenes of rural England in watercolour. Around 1940 he recorded Toll House, Preston, near Aldbourne, its low brick building sheltered by trees and light catching the slate roof. His brush stayed close to the scene’s textures, rough walls, wet cobblestones, the soft wash of sky behind the chimney, rather than flamboyant effects.

The result feels like a snapshot you might actually pass on a lane just outside a Wiltshire village. Tap the lane itself in Adams’s Toll House, Preston, Nr.Aldbourne.
