Consalvo Carelli spent his life painting the hills around Naples from the same cramped studio. He showed up every morning with a fresh pot of coffee, a packed lunch, and a view he never tired of. Locals called him "il pittore del sole" for how he caught sunlight on stone and shadow.

If you walk the streets of Naples today, you’ll still see that same light flickering on the same doorways. His 1870s canvas Montevergine, Napoli is basically his postcard home, keep an eye out for it at the Museo di Capodimonte.
