Barbara Elisabeth van Houten was a Dutch painter and etcher who lived from 1862 to 1950 within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Her artistic practice also encompassed the creation of exlibris. During her formative years, she studied under the artist Hendrik Willem Mesdag. She further developed her skills as a student of the artist August Allebé. These educational experiences shaped her career as a documented painter, etcher, and exlibrist. Her work remains a part of the artistic heritage of the Netherlands during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
