Carl Ernst Christoph Hess

Carl Ernst Christoph Hess was a German visual artist and copper engraver active during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Born in 1755 and passing in 1828, he dedicated his career to the craft of copperplate engraving within Germany. His professional legacy includes significant pedagogical contributions, most notably as the instructor of the artist Samuel Amsler. Beyond his own artistic output, Hess is recognized for his role as the parent of the painter Peter von Hess.
