David Thomas Powell never left his studio in Hereford if the weather was anything less than perfect. Up until his death at 82, he painted tiny watercolors of the same tree in the garden, year after year, in every season. The leaves always looked just a little too crisp, the light just a little too sharp, like he kept trying to outrun the moment he first set up his easel.
