Enaki painted like he was running out of time, quick, bold strokes that caught the subject mid-move, as if the sitter might vanish if he paused too long. He loved Romanian boyars, but never in stiff portraits; his brush turned them into living people, caught between power and exhaustion. See his Logofătul Alecu Ghica, the man’s lace collar looks ready to crumple, his eyes tired but sharp.
