Walter Pelham

Walter Pelham is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Walter Pelham worked the London print trade like a foreman, ink-stained fingers, tea-stained shirts, always pushing proofs to clients by Friday. He kept a cat named Biscuit who napped on the copper plates, leaving tiny paw prints in the acid. What sticks isn’t the grand portrait or the royal commission, but his habit of hiding a tiny “W.P.” inside every corner of a print, like a game for sharp eyes.

Hunt for it in the H Beard Collection prints; once you spot one, the whole sheet seems to wink back.
