Frančesco Redi

Grand Duchy of Tuscany, 1626–1697

Frančesco Redi was a Grand Duchy of Tuscany artist.

Frančesco Redi, a native of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, lived from 1626 to 1697 as a figure of diverse intellectual pursuit. He worked as a naturalist, scientist, physician, and writer, while also cultivating a practice as a poet and polymath. His documented roles include that of an Italian entomologist. Early in his development, he studied under the artist Remigio Cantagallina, an experience that informed his broader engagement with the visual and natural worlds. Redi remains a notable example of the seventeenth-century scholar who moved fluidly between scientific inquiry and literary expression.
