The Master of Boucicaut, or Boucicaut Master, was an anonymous Franco-Flemish manuscript illuminator active in Paris in the early fifteenth century, roughly 1405 to 1420. He takes his name from the Boucicaut Hours, a book of hours made for Jean II Le Meingre, called Boucicaut, marshal of France. He was among the most innovative illuminators of his time, noted for advances in atmospheric perspective and the rendering of light, distance, and weather, and he ran a large and productive workshop in the French capital. His manner contributed to the development of early Netherlandish painting.
