John Doyle was a painter, political cartoonist, caricaturist, and lithographer active in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1797 to 1868. His professional life spanned several decades of artistic production during the nineteenth century. Doyle is also noted for his role as a parent to two artists, Richard Doyle and Henry Edward Doyle. His work contributed to the visual culture of his time through various documented media. The scope of his career included both independent artistic creation and the guidance of the next generation of artists within his family.
