Untitled is a 1966 oil by Arthur Köpcke, depicting Dog, held at Museum of Modern Art.
You see a small sheet of printed paper—maybe a page from a book or ad—with scribbled pencil marks and a few smears of oil paint on top. Köpcke didn’t try to hide the paper underneath. Instead, he let the printed words and lines stay visible, like he was building something new on top of something old. The paint looks almost accidental, as if he just touched the page and left it there. If you like this mix of everyday paper and quick marks, look up *impasto*.
Arthur Köpcke, also known as Arthur Køpcke, was a German-born artist known for his contributions to the first generation of Fluxus. Köpcke’s work includes paintings, scrolls, literary works, objects, collages, assemblies and Fluxus boxes.
