Ommeganck employs a delicate palette of greens, earth tones and soft blues, using layered brushwork to render foliage, sky and ground with atmospheric depth. Fine textural details—such as the bark of trees and the expressions on the figures—demonstrate his careful observation and skill in conveying movement within a still scene.

Created shortly after the Napoleonic Wars, the painting entered the holdings of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, where it remains on display. Ommeganck’s active role in Antwerp’s artistic circles contributed to a broader revival of landscape painting in the Low Countries during the early nineteenth century.
