Cross Embellished with Flowers is a 1650 ink by Johannes Hanias, a Renaissance work, depicting Latin Cross, held at National Gallery of Art.
This engraving shows a plain wooden cross with flowers wrapped around it. The flowers look real but the cross looks rough and unpolished. Thin lines cover the paper like a net. Engraving on paper was a new way to print art in the 1600s. The artist cut the lines himself, so each print is slightly different. Want to see it?
