Untitled is a 1925 by Lilian Hocknell, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This is a drawing from around 1925 by Lilian Hocknell. It was made for Chilprufe Ltd, a children’s clothing company. The image was used in their catalogs to sell kids’ underwear. Hocknell often made ads and book illustrations. Chilprufe was known for good prices and quality. Kids’ underwear was their big seller. See more work by Hocknell at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The illustration is a pencil, ink, and wash drawing on cream-colored paper-faced card, depicting three boys playing with whipping tops. The youngest child wears a vest, trunk underpants, and socks, while the middle boy is dressed in a vest and longer underpants, and the oldest is shown in combinations. Produced for Chilprufe Ltd, a children's clothing manufacturer, the work reflects the brand’s emphasis on high-quality, mainstream children’s underwear from the early 20th century. The image appears to be a revised version, adjusted based on manufacturer feedback noted on the reverse.
