Untitled is a 2003 graphite by Jonathan Lasker, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This drawing is all tangled lines and dark shapes. There’s no clear picture of anything—just a messy mix of pencil strokes that fill the whole page. Some areas are packed tight with lines, while others leave big empty spaces. A few vague, blocky shapes peek through, but they’re hard to make out. The artist used only pencil, layering lines until the paper looks almost scratched. It’s like the drawing was made by hand, fast and without a plan. Try looking up cross-hatching to see how artists build shadows with lines.
Jonathan Lasker is an American abstract painter based in New York City whose work has played an integral role in the development of Postmodern Painting. He is represented by Greene Naftali Gallery, New York and by Thaddaeus Ropac.
