About this work

This engraving shows a woman’s head in profile, crowned by a crescent moon. Her face is smooth and calm. The background is blank, so light catches only her features. The artist used fine lines and tiny dots to shade the face. Gold leaf flickers in the hair and crown, catching the light. The print is small—just a few inches across. It’s one of 78 cards from a set called the E-Series Tarocchi. Look for this sheet at the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
