This sketch shows a bare-chested person leaning on one arm, sitting beside a dog. The lines are loose and quick, like a fast sketch. The dog’s fur is suggested with a few strokes, and the person’s pose is relaxed but a little stiff. The artist used a drypoint technique—scratching lines into a metal plate to make prints. It’s all in black and white, with no shading beyond the lines themselves. Check out drypoint to see how this printing method works.
