This painting shows a rough, textured scene of a street corner. A tree with thick, dark branches stands in the middle, its trunk twisting upward. To the right, a person sits on a bench under a tree, wearing a hat and a coat. Behind them, a building with a small doorway and a window with curtains is visible. The colors are mostly muted—greens, browns, and grays—with a few bright yellow and white patches. The brushstrokes are thick and uneven, giving the scene a scratchy, almost sketchy feel. It looks like the artist worked quickly, leaving some areas rough and others slightly blurred. Next, look up impasto to see how this technique works in other paintings.
