Untitled is a 1926 ink by Yves Tanguy, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This drawing shows a giant hand holding up a finger like a stop sign. The hand is tied with rope to something in the ground, and behind it, two jagged, rock-like shapes stick out of the dirt. The sky above is just a few scattered dots. The hand looks almost like a puppet, frozen in place. The artist used quick, sketchy lines to make it feel strange and dreamlike. Next, check out cross-hatching to see how artists build shadows with lines.
Raymond Georges Yves Tanguy (5 January 1900 – 15 January 1955), known as just Yves Tanguy (; French: ), was a French Surrealist painter, known for his abstract landscapes.
