The Wilhelmsburg studio outside Erfurt stamped its mark in faint Helmsburg letters, as if the maker wanted you to find it later, not admire it up front. The wheat pattern inside each bowl is hand-painted so thin you half-expect the stalks to rustle when you pick it up.

Look for the one with the mustard-yellow rim and black geometric lip, it sits in the corner of the ceramic vault in Sömmerda and catches every stray café light.
