John Miers made plaster portraits of British and South American sitters in the early 1800s. In 1806 he cast a life-size bust of Manuel Belgrano, the Argentine revolutionary, which still stands in Buenos Aires. His workshop in Soho turned out crisp, white likenesses for export to Lima and Rio.
