A hand-colored print artist from the early 1800s, H.R. Cooke made theatrical portraits of actors in famous roles. Look for Mr. Lewis as the Marquis in the Midnight Hour (1812) and Mr. Lewis as the Marquis (1821), two prints showing the same performer in the same part, posed dramatically with candlelight and shadows. Tap either print to see the actor’s expressive face and costume up close.
