Master of the Stories of Helen

Master of the Stories of Helen is a Northern Renaissance artist. 3 works are cataloged here, principally at Walters Art Museum.
Fifteen years in the mid-1400s, an Italian painter, we still call him the Master of the Stories of Helen, specialized in three scenes of Troy’s fabled queen. His triptych goes: Helen arriving in a packed palace doorway, Paris sweeping her away on a ship with billowing sails, and another embarkation where she boards at Cythera. Each panel is a tight, courtly drama in muted tempera, the figures posed like actors in a moral play. Flip to The Embarkation of Helen for Cythera to watch the shore shrink behind her.
