Hishikawa Moronobu was a Japanese painter and printmaker who lived from 1618 to 1694. Working as an illustrator and ukiyo-e artist, he established a significant presence in the field during his lifetime. His professional legacy includes teaching the artist Furuyama Moroshige and instructing his own son, Hishikawa Morofusa, who also became an artist. Moronobu served as a parent to Morofusa while simultaneously guiding his artistic development. These documented relationships highlight his role in passing his craft to the next generation within the Hishikawa lineage and among his students.
