William Frend De Morgan (1839 to 1917) was an English ceramicist and designer associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. A close friend and collaborator of William Morris, he is best known for his decorative tiles and pottery, on which he revived and developed lustreware glazes and drew on Iznik and Persian models for vivid blues, greens and reds. His designs favoured stylised flowers, ships, and fantastical birds and beasts.
He ran potteries in Chelsea, Merton Abbey and Fulham in London. In later life he turned to writing and achieved success as a novelist with works such as Joseph Vance.
