Gheorghe Zlotescu

Gheorghe Zlotescu kept a studio lit only by a single lamp, painting the same young woman in a striped Turkish outfit until her face became a blur of concentration. He was the kind of artist who erased more than he kept, layers of gowns, half-finished hands, yet left the stripes of her dress glowing like a flag. Slide into his Odaliscă and you’ll notice the left cuff is darker than the right, as if he forgot to lift his brush at the exact moment he remembered why he started.
