Numata Gessai was an artist.

Numata Gessai was a Japanese painter and ukiyo-e artist who lived from 1787 to 1864. His artistic education included study under the renowned Katsushika Hokusai and Yamamoto Baiitsu. Through this training, he developed his practice as a painter within the ukiyo-e tradition. Later in his career, Gessai passed on his knowledge by teaching the artist Oishi Matora. His life and work spanned a significant period in Japanese art history, connecting major figures of the era through both mentorship and instruction.
