Shrimpers Returning, Etaples

Thomas RI Austen-Brown is an Impressionism artist. 3 works are cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Thomas RI Austen-Brown made quiet, luminous watercolors of European harbors and coastlines in the early 1900s. He painted Grasse in 1923 and The Church and Harbour at Veere in 1922, both soft washes of sky and water that catch a moment before the light shifts. His 1917 scene Shrimpers Returning, Etaples shows laborers at day’s end, their figures small against the gray-green sea. Hop aboard his watercolor of the Dutch harbor at Veere to drift into his gentle, salt-kissed world.
