Mrs Henry Howard

Mrs Henry Howard is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Mrs. Henry Howard kept a tidy watercolor box in her London sitting room, but she didn’t paint the usual flowers or landscapes. Instead, she spent years filling an album with quick, bold sketches of people, sailors on shore leave, sleepy children in doorways, a butcher wiping his knife. She never signed the pages, but the way she caught a coat’s drape or a hat’s shadow is like a backstage pass into Regency London.

Tap the “Sutherland Album” and you’ll see what she saw: real life, one damp brushstroke at a time.
