Rugendas cel Bătrân

Rugendas cel Bătrân is a Barbizon school artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Brukenthal National Museum.

This painter had a habit of sketching battles while they were still noisy and smoky, then finishing the scenes later in his studio. He once rode with Austrian hussars just to watch cavalry charge up close. You’ll find his pendants, one showing the chaos, the other the quiet afterward, side by side in the same room at the National Museum of Art.

Look for “Luptă de cavalerie. Pandant: După luptă” if you want to see how one moment splits into two.
