Artist

Master of Pulkau

Master of Pulkau is a Northern Renaissance artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Art Institute of Chicago.

This unknown painter worked in Austria around 1500. Their only known surviving work in our collection is The Nativity, a tempera panel that shows the birth of Jesus in crisp lines and soft gold. The figures have quiet dignity, like carved altarpieces you’d see in village churches of the time.

Step inside the scene by tapping The Nativity to look closer at the cradle and the ox standing behind Mary.
