Juan Yalanda, guambiano Tombé

Juan Yalanda, guambiano Tombé is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at ethnographic museum.

Juan Tombé’s paintings feel like quiet invitations from a highland terrace. He worked with earthy pigments, grinding minerals himself and pressing them into paper with a flat stone, no brushes, just fingers and patience. A friend once told me his studio smelled like rain on coffee leaves.

Try his 2012 piece Woman Holding a Basket at the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art; the way the indigo shadows spill across her woven hat makes you want to reach in and lift the fruit inside.
