Frederick William Pailthorpe made prints in the 1880s, a decade when artists often traded etchings in London pubs and print clubs. In 1883 he pulled H Beard Print Collection, one of several hand-drawn proofs now kept in bound volumes. These crisp, ink-on-paper sheets show everyday scenes, street corners, shop fronts, lamplighters at dusk, rendered with the fine needlework of etching rather than the painter’s brush.
