Artist
James Hope

James Hope is an American Folk Art artist. 5 works are cataloged here, principally at Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
James Hope painted detailed landscapes and military scenes in mid-19th-century oils. His brush brought 1851’s quarried stone to life in A Marble Quarry and froze the Army of the Potomac in 1865 on canvas. Later, he framed rugged cliffs at Watkins Glen in 1872 and Vermont’s Bird Mountain the same year.
If you want to see how he handled winter light, tap into his 1855 view of Norway, copied after Georg Saal.
