Antonio Rimpacta

Italian

Antonio Rimpacta is an Italian High Renaissance artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Art Institute of Chicago.

Italian religious painter of the early 1500s, Rimpacta filled golden altarpieces with soft-skinned Madonnas and saints. In Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist, a young Jesus clutches a thin cross while John the Baptist offers a scroll. He layered muted greens, dusty reds, and glowing gold leaf over wooden panels, a habit shared by other painters of his decade.
