Merrick snapped photos in a London studio lit by a skylight that never moved, so actors had to wait for the right light. He caught performers mid-breath, half-smile, before the wig shift or the next costume change. One 1863 shot shows Guy Little in costume, fingers loose, eyes sharp, like he’s just stepped off stage and might start talking to you.
