James Gwinn made early prints in the 1700s, turning scenes into black-and-white engravings that circulated widely. In our collection you’ll find two: “H Beard Print Collection” from around 1735 and another dated about 1753. Both belong to the same anonymous print tradition that traded in jokes, portraits, and newsy images. Curious about what passed for memes then? Tap into the same series to see more.
