Maria Arbore

Maria Arbore is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum of Romanian History.

Maria Arbore carried a sketchbook like a second house key, always in her pocket, always open to whatever the street showed her. In 1933 she stood with striking workers in Bucharest, turning their clenched fists and tired faces into lines that still feel warm to the touch. Skip the big speeches; her pencil drew the real argument, the calloused knuckles gripping a newspaper, the child asleep on a comrade’s shoulder.

Look up “Desen reprezentând „Familiile greviștilor din 1933”” and you’ll see why pencil dust can be louder than a megaphone.
