Grindlay

Grindlay is a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Grindlay painted the Sindh region in the early 1800s, before photography became common. They captured forts, rivers, and distant landscapes with careful lines and muted colors. Their 1808 view of The Fort of Hyderabad across the Indus River shows walls rising above the water, a British-era outpost framed by palm trees and low hills.

These scenes document a shifting time, when East India Company officers and local rulers still shared the land. Tap to see how Grindlay set forts against the wide Sindh sky.
