Artist
Jaques de Bourguignon
Jaques de Bourguignon is a Barbizon school artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Colecție particulară - Arad.
Jacques de Bourguignon kept a studio above a Parisian print shop where he sketched soldiers in between ink orders. He painted battle scenes with a dry, almost comic edge, horses rearing like startled shoppers, muskets aimed at nothing in particular. If you want to see his odd mix of grit and whimsy, look up Scenă de luptă (1650) in the Louvre’s Dutch and Flemish rooms, where it hides between bigger names.
