Hyong Sik Rim

Hyong Sik Rim is a Korean Minhwa artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

This Korean painter spent years sketching the quiet corners of Seoul’s alleyways, doorways, neon signs, the way light hits wet pavement. He once told an interviewer he only paints when it rains, turning his studio into a listening room for drumming drops. His 2007 painting Ch'ukcheoneul aptugo (축전을 앞두고), “Before the Festival”, catches a backstreet barber shop the morning after, chairs still damp from midnight rain, waiting for tomorrow’s crowd. It’s a snapshot you’d miss if you blinked. Look it up and let the weather in.
