Katsukawa Shuntei lived from 1770 to 1820 within the Tokugawa shogunate. He worked as an illustrator, xylographer, painter, graphic artist, and ukiyo-e artist. His career included teaching the artist Shibata Zeshin. Shuntei also taught the artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi, who was further influenced by his work. These documented relationships highlight his role in shaping the next generation of artists during his lifetime. His contributions as a graphic artist and painter remain a significant part of the historical record for this period.
