De Vere

De Vere is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

De Vere spent the 1870s lurking in the wings of London theatres, camera in hand, waiting for singers to finish their high notes. He shot actors mid-performance, catching the moment before the pose melted back into sweat and steam. That’s why his Guy Little Theatrical Photograph still feels alive, blurred edges, sidelong glances, a split second of real feeling.

You’ll find it hiding in the V&A’s theatre collection; look for the one labelled “De Vere, c. 1875,” and you’ll see a whole backstage world caught on glass.
